Description
Nigel & Wendy would like to extend a warm welcome to visitors of Chelmsford Place Guest House. Chelmsford Place is to be found at 85 Fulford Road, which is only 6-7 minutes walk from York's historic city centre either by the pleasant tree lined riverside walk which is only 400 yards away or by the main road. Chelmsford Place offers singles, doubles, twins, triples and family rooms, most of which have full en-suite facilities, apart from two rooms which share the facilities with each other only and all rooms have central heating, colour remote teletext television and tea and coffee-making facilities.

Full English breakfast is included in the price, and is served in the comfortable ground floor dining room.

CHELMSFORD PLACE makes an ideal base from which to explore York`s city streets, which are packed with places of interest with local transport being easily available if you have arrived by train/coach.

Best known of all is the world famous Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral north of the alps, and one of the finest in Europe. www.yorkminster.org

But there's so much more as well, including the city walls, first built in the fourteenth century, and many museums, where you can find out how life was lived in York in the year 948 as well as the Castle Museum www.yorkcastlemuseum.org.uk and Yorkshire Museum.

There's plenty to interest the whole family at the National Railway Museum, which was recently expanded and is the largest railway museum in the world. www.nrm.org.uk

There are also a host of guided walks to show the visitor the hidden corner of the city, including its famous `snickleways`(hidden streets) and many different ghost walks are available.

Open top double decker buses run regular tours of the city www.guidefriday.com as do the cruise ships along the river, www.yorkboat.co.uk so it's easy to see all the sites whether or not you arrive by car.

York boasts a large number of attractions for a city it's size, meaning there's always something entertaining to do. There are three cinemas within easy reach - including a 12-screen multiplex - two atmospheric theatres, www.theatre-royal-york.co.uk a host of restaurants serving a huge variety of international cuisine.

Just a short drive from Chelmsford Place are the championship-standard Fulford golf course, www.fulfordgolfclub.co.uk with the York University and designer outlet centre just a few minutes away as well and York race course, one of the leading tracks in the country and sometimes known as the 'Ascot of the North' is within easy reach. www.yorkracecourse.co.uk

Beyond York itself, there are a host of attractive towns and houses worthy of a visit. Especially well-known is the magnificent Castle Howard, www.castlehoward.co.uk where Brideshead Revisited was filmed.

Two National Parks are also near at hand with the North York Moors Railway (famous for 'Heartbeat') running original old steam trains operating a regular passenger/dining service from Pickering to Whitby via Goathland, www.northyorkshiremoorsrailway.com with the other National Park being the Yorkshire Dales about one hours drive away.

There's so much to see and do in York and the surrounding area, you'll be spoilt for choice.
