Perched high in the Shropshire/Welsh hills, midway between Shrewsbury and Chester, this beautiful silver-stone former Georgian rectory is set in stunning scenery. Set In five acres of grounds, the hotel prides itself on its unobtrusive hospitality, first-class cooking and an easy-going atmosphere that guarantees a real "away-from-it-all" feeling. With the front terrace serenely facing the Welsh mountains to the west, the hotel provides some of the finest sunsets you’ll see anywhere in the world. Sundowners are a must!
The hotel is fully licensed and has an extensive wine list. There is no better way to round off exploring Offa’s Dyke or walking in the surrounding hills (the hotel supplies free walking leaflets) than to dine in the restaurant, where the emphasis is on local and organic produce wherever possible. The hotel has two Food Rosettes from the AA and has won many other awards including The Good Hotel Guide Country Hotel of the Year Award, The Which? Hotel Rural Retreat Award and the Johansens Best Value Award.
Some bedrooms in the main hotel have en-suite jacuzzis or spa baths, and are priced according to size and view. Those in The Coach-House have a Mediterranean style, each with a private patio, well suited to dog owners. There is also a ground floor room suitable for infirm guests with French windows opening onto the hotel terrace. In the cooler months log fires burn in the two lounges helping to create a cosy, “country house” atmosphere.
The National Trust properties of Powis Castle, Chirk Castle, Attingham and Erddig are all nearby, as is Wales’ highest waterfall and the beautiful Lake Vyrnwy. The medieval timbered towns of Shrewsbury and Chester are both within half an hours drive. The Ironbridge Gorge is about forty-five minutes away. Pets are welcome at no extra charge.
